Our History
MEET THE PROVOST The history of Islamic formal education in the family of Sanusi Adeyemi of Odeomu could be traced to the late Sheikh Sanusi Adeyemi Alowolodu,who established a Quranic School in Modakeke in 1886.
Pa Sanusi migrated along with members of his family from Modakeke to Odeomu in 1909. There, he continued with formal local Quranic School until his death in 1922. The running of the School was taken over by the late Sheik Ibrahim Adeyemi who happened to be the eldest son of late Adeyemi and became the Chief Imam of Odeomu between 1937and 1973. At this stage, Late Sheikh Sanusi Alabi Adeyemi , the eldest son of Imam Ibrahim Adeyemi, who had become a great and renowed Islamic Scholar was made the director of the School. The late Sheikh Sanusi Alabi Adeyemi being a visionary and experienced leader did all within his power to expand the School and bring it up to a level of modern Arabic School. This he did through the Construction of block of five classrooms on a parcel of land allocated to his father by Adesigbin and Oluseyi families. The new modern Arabic School received support from philanthropists from within and outside the town of Odeomu between 1968 and 1969. This made it to become more popular, more acceptable and better patronage was recorded. The modern Arabic institute began fully its operations on the new site with its headquarters in Gbongan. The School was then named Mahad Ta'alimul Arabiyyah (Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies) , Odeomu.

In January 1982, Alhaji Sirajudeen Olusegun Adeyemi, a renowed scholar who combined western education with Arabic and Islamic education, put in place a major re-organization of the School.
Alhaji Sirajudeen Olusegun Adeyemi constituted a three-man committee to prepare a new curriculum for the School such that the teaching of English language and translation would be included. The committee comprised;

  • Alhaji Sirajudeen Olusegun Adeyemi- Chairman
  • Alhaji Kamil Adeyemi –Secretary
  • Mallam Bushra Sulayman – member
The report of the committee to the establishment of two levels of education programmed in the school. These were:

  • Thananwiyy (Advance class)
  • Idaadiy (Intermediate class)

The first set of Idaadiy students graduated in 1984 while many others followed at both levels in subsequent years. The success recorded in the two levels of the new Arabic and Islamic school and the interest shown by parents made Alhaji Sirajudeen Olusegun Adeyemi to think of how to operate a full fledge secondary education programme that would combine Western education with Arabic and Islamic education. This dream was realized in 1994 through the personal efforts of the highly energetic and ever positive thinker, Alhaji Sirajudeen Olusegun Adeyemi. He was able to get the school registered as a Continuing Education center with the Osun state Government. The Continuing Education Center was named: Assanusiyyah Continuing Education Center, Odeomu,
Alhaji Sirajudeen Olusegun Adeyemi was able to get the Continuing Education center school registered as a full-fledged private secondary school with the Osun State Ministry of Education in September, 1996. The Nursery and primary school was also registered by the state government in 1999. The two schools were registered as:

Assanusiyyah Comprehensive High School, Odeomu.

Assanusiyyah Nursery and Primary School, Odeomu.

There are two sides to the acronym ASSANUSIYYAH. These are:
